We are pleased to announce the publication of ED-344 “Process Specification – Test Guidelines for Assessment of Electrical Insulation Material Ageing in a High Voltage System“.
The primary scope of WG-116 “High Voltage Systems and Components in Aviation” is to define standards for high voltage systems and components in aircraft. These standards support the development and certification of new electrical and hybrid aircraft designs, where higher electrical voltages introduce new standardisation and certification needs.
ED-344 provides guidance for assessing the suitability and expected lifetime of electrical insulation systems under the combined effects of temperature, reduced air pressure, humidity and other environmental stresses. As aircraft electrification drives systems towards higher voltage levels, conventional aerospace test methods may no longer be sufficient to assess insulation performance and lifetime in an aerospace environment.
The document provides test guidelines to support the assessment of insulation materials and systems under these specific operating conditions.
