We are pleased to announce the publication of ED-57A “MOPS for Distance Measuring Equipment (DME/N and DME/P) (Ground Equipment)“
The primary scope of WG-107 “DME Infrastructure supporting PBN Positioning” is to revise the existing EUROCAE standards for Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) and develop specifications for DME infrastructure supporting Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) positioning.
ED-57A contains the Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPS) for DME/N and DME/P ground equipment and supersedes ED-57, originally published in December 1986. The standard has been updated to reflect current DME/N equipment capabilities while maintaining compatibility with ICAO Annex 10.
The update also reflects advances in airborne equipment that enable the reversion to RNP procedures using DME/DME positioning, supporting continued RNP operations in the event of a GNSS outage. The specifications for DME/P remain unchanged.
The MOPS cover performance and equipment characteristics, system requirements, test setups, and application guidelines to support the demonstration of compliance.
Congratulations to the experts of WG-107, chaired by Gerhard Berz (EUROCONTROL), for their excellent work and dedication!
