We are pleased to announce the availability of the following draft EUROCAE document prepared by EUROCAE WG-51 SG-5 – Wide Area Multilateration Surveillance System:
- ED-142A “Technical Specification for Wide Area Multilateration Surveillance System“
After the publication of ED-142 in September 2010, ED-142A has been developed as an updated Technical Specification for Wide Area Multilateration (WAM) systems based on 1030/1090 MHz Mode S signals. ED-142A defines the minimum technical requirements for a WAM System modernising surveillance performance and interoperability. The WAM System is a surveillance sensor infrastructure supporting ATS surveillance services such as Area Control and Approach Control Services. The document may also support airport surface operations in accordance with ED-117A, but does not include specific surface requirements.
The core of a WAM System is based on reception of 1090 MHz aircraft transmissions, including Mode S and ADS-B messages and optionally Mode A/C. ADS-B processing is aligned with ED-129C. ED-142A is intended for manufacturers, ANSPs and regulators as both a technical specification and procurement reference, including requirements, recommendations and implementation options.
WG-51 – SG-5 is responsible for developing revision A to ED-142 ‘Technical Specification for Wide Area Multilateration (WAM) Systems’.
It is recognised that ED-142A will not only be used by manufacturers but also as a support to system procurement. As such considerations as well as recommendations and options are included which describe a range of functionalities which the end user may choose to deploy.
