CVR Training

What is this training about?

Annual operational checks and evaluations of Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) recordings are required under ICAO Annex 6 and EASA Air Operations Regulation (EU) No 965/2012 to ensure the continued serviceability of installed crash protected recorder systems. These inspections play a key role in maintaining the quality and integrity of recorded audio, supporting both regulatory compliance and aviation safety.

EUROCAE developed ED-112A to define the Minimum Operational Performance Specification (MOPS) for Crash Protected Airborne Recorder Systems. EASA, under Air Operations Regulation (EU) No 965/2012, references this standard as the Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) for operational performance requirements of CVRs and CVR systems.

This training provides participants with the knowledge and practical guidance needed to understand and apply ED-112A during annual CVR inspections. Participants will learn how to assess CVR recordings, identify audio anomalies, understand the applicable regulatory framework, and demonstrate compliance with the EASA Means of Compliance.

Although ED-112B supersedes ED-112A and is not yet applicable, the course reviews its main evolutions, with particular emphasis on the audio assessment chapter.

The instructor also shares practical experience on common recording issues, interpretation of inspection results, and good practices for maintaining compliant crash protected recorder systems.

Who should attend?

This course is intended for professionals involved in CVR analysis as per AIR-OPS 965-2012 (airlines, MRO, Part 145).

No prior experience in CVR analysis is required, but access to aviation documentation (CS, AIR-OPS, EUROCAE) is beneficial.
