The main activity of EUROCAE WG-28 is the development of standards for Ground Based Augmentation Systems (GBAS). The working group considers emerging GBAS technologies and applications whilst being cognizant of the aviation developments in these fields.
The group focusses on new technologies in the GBAS domain, and aims to develop standards for related systems.
The developed ED-114B ground MOPS that includes the GAST D elements, is considered a stepping stone to more advanced and robust GBAS systems, it being DFMC GBAS based on GPS and Galileo. The ongoing standardisation activity within ICAO NSP considers backwards compatibility to complete the GAST C and GAST D concepts with a DFMC GBAS concept supporting CAT III operations, based on resilient signal processing, including against ionospheric disturbances, radio frequency interference, single constellation limitations and enhancing cyber resilience. The new concept is monikered GAST E. This new concept may be able to, in addition to traditional precision approaches down to CAT III, serve new entrants and new operations.
