WG-130 identified the need for an update of ED-153 and development of guidance to ED-109A to establish harmonized safety assessment methodologies, assurance level allocation to ATM/ANS equipment and their constituents, along with development assurance objectives and activities suitable for the conformity assessment of those ATM/ANS equipment, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/1768.

Based on ATM/ANS stakeholders experience gained in applying both ED-153 and ED-109A, the new conformity assessment framework for Design and Production Organisation (DPO) brings the need for a streamlined set of software assurance objectives and activities, along with an applicability per assurance level optimized for the ATM/ANS domain.

For this reason, a Sub Group 1 ‘ATM/ANS Safety and Assurance Standards is established with the objective to update ED-153 to address the conformity assessment of the ATM/ANS Equipment, its software and/or hardware constituents and underlying architecture in the context of the new EU regulation framework
