We are pleased to announce the availability of the following draft EUROCAE document prepared by EUROCAE WG-31 Electromagnetic Hazards:
- ED-248A: Guide to Civil Aircraft Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).
The primary scope of WG-31 is to prepare technical standards, specifications, guides and any other material required to support the development of regulation and the certification of aircraft in relation to Electromagnetic hazards such as lightning protection, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF), etc.
This revision is based on lessons learned and knowledge gained by users since original release. Section 6.2 was updated to include equipment with all failure condition severities for stringent qualification requirements, a simplification of the figure 5 flow chart, and adding specific guidance for each step in the flow chart. Section 8 was updated to include guidance on TCAS and transponder ground testing, ramp test equipment, RF transmitter frequency spacing (table 7), and radio transmitter vs radio receiver testing. Section 8.5 was updated to include a specific test procedure, references to the source of decision threshold values in table 8, guidance on testing HF comm, reducing the spectrum analyzer noise floor, minimizing ambient noise, minimizing uncertainty, and measurement examples. Section 8.9.1 was updated to include examples of similarity cases. This document is technically identical to SAE ARP60493A.
