We are pleased to announce the publication of ER-035 – Clarification Notice of ED-79B.
The primary scope of WG-63 is to develop standards, specifications, guides, and other supporting material related to the safety of aircraft, systems, and equipment throughout the aircraft lifecycle. The group provides industry guidance supporting the development, certification, and continued airworthiness of civil aircraft systems and equipment.
ER-035 supports applicants and stakeholders in the application of ED-79B by providing clarification and additional guidance on selected areas of the document that may be subject to misinterpretation or require further explanation. The clarification notice has been developed to promote a consistent understanding and effective implementation of ED-79B across the industry.
ED-79B supersedes ED-79A and provides industry best practices for the development of civil aircraft and systems. The document has been revised to incorporate known errata and industry comments, ensuring that its recommendations remain aligned with current state-of-the-art practices. It addresses the increasing complexity and integration of modern aircraft systems and promotes a disciplined and systematic development approach to ensure that safety and operational requirements are fully realized and substantiated. The work was carried out jointly with SAE S-18.
Congratulations to the experts of WG-63 Aircraft System Development and Assessment, chaired by David Redman (Boeing), for their excellent work and dedication!
