Join WG-28 and Advance GLASS (GLS Approaches Using SBAS)
WG-28 responsible for Ground Based Augmentation Systems, is seeking contributions to the standardisation of GLASS – GLS Approaches using SBAS.
With the GLASS concept, GLS-equipped aircraft will be enabled to conduct RNP approaches down to LPV minima. Publishing corresponding RNP approaches is in line with the implementation regulation for performance-based navigation (PBN IR, Regulation (EU) 2018/1048).
With GLASS, RNP approaches can be extended to a wider range of users already equipped with GLS capability, without any modifications to the airborne receivers.
GLASS proposes the use of a GAST A GBAS based on SBAS corrections and integrity parameters, combined with a locally stored final approach segment database.
The concept can support the objectives of the PBN IR by facilitating a strategic shift towards harmonised, performance-based navigation, with the aim of saving costs, increasing airspace capacity, enhancing safety, and reducing reliance on legacy navigation infrastructure, such as barometric altimeters.
However, currently no standards for such an SBAS-to-GBAS relay as GLASS exist.
WG-28 wishes to propose an update to its Terms of Reference to move forward with the standardisation of the GLASS concept

Discover WG-130 and Support ATM/ANS Equipment Attestation Standards
The publication of Regulation (EU) 2023/1768 establishes a new conformity assessment framework for ATM/ANS equipment, including its software and hardware constituents, placing greater emphasis on harmonised safety assessment methodologies and assurance requirements.
As highlighted in EUROCAE Report ER-049, published in January 2026, WG-130 recommends updating ED-153 and developing guidance for ED-109A to support the definition of harmonised safety assessment methodologies, the allocation of assurance levels to ATM/ANS equipment and its constituents, and the establishment of development assurance objectives and activities suitable for conformity assessment.
Building on the experience gained by ATM/ANS stakeholders in applying ED-153 and ED-109A, the new framework for Design and Production Organisations (DPOs) calls for a streamlined set of software assurance objectives and activities, with applicability criteria for each assurance level tailored to the ATM/ANS domain.
The update of ED-153 will address the conformity assessment of ATM/ANS equipment, its software and hardware constituents, and their underlying architecture within the new European regulatory framework. It will also cover safety aspects related to the allocation of assurance levels, from ATM/ANS systems down to individual equipment constituents.
This work will be undertaken by WG-130 through a dedicated subgroup, bringing together ATM/ANS systems experts from Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) and Design and Production Organisations (DPOs), as well as safety and software assurance experts.
