Call for Participation

EUROCAE Working Group 110

HTAWS

ED-XXX”MOPS for Class A HTAWS for Offshore Helicopter Operations”

EUROCAE is launching this Call for Participation to inform interested parties about activities to be undertaken by the newly created working group 110 on HTAWS and to provide the opportunity to nominate expert participants.

The kick-off meeting will take place on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 December 2018 at EUROCAE in Paris region.

EUROCAE WG-110 will work on the following deliverable:

ED-XXX (by December 2020): “Minimum Operating Performance Standard for Class A Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems (HTAWS) for Offshore Helicopter Operations”

Background

The objective of this new WG is to develop MOPS for Class A HTAWS for offshore helicopter operations primarily in support of the EASA operating rule mandate under Commission Regulation (EU) 2016/1199 of 22 July 2016 (SPA.HOFO.160(c)). The EASA mandate currently applies only to aircraft first registered after 31 December 2018, but this may be extended to other aircraft depending on the outcome of the proposed EASA Rulemaking Task RMT.0708, Controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) prevention with helicopter terrain avoidance warning systems (HTAWS).

This operational requirement, together with the desire to address a number of Safety Recommendations published in official offshore helicopter accident investigation reports, forms the motivation for improving safety by providing a formal minimum standard for Class A HTAWS, focusing mainly on the so-called ‘Classic Modes’.

The creation of the new working group and its activity has been approved by the EUROCAE Council on 27 September 2018. The kick-off meeting will take place on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 December 2018 at EUROCAE in Paris region.

If your organisation is interested in contributing to this activity, please complete the Registration form by Friday, 30 November 2018 to attend the kick-off meeting.
