WG-71 Software Considerations in Aeronautical Systems
Development of guidance material to leverage technology developed in the computer and communication industries for use in the aviation industry with a view to provide a means to achieve approval of both airborne and CNS/ATM software.
WG-71 has developed seven documents, which were approved by the EUROCAE Council in January 2012.
Three documents define the software considerations for three application domains:
ED-12C: software considerations in airborne systems and equipment certification (published)
ED-109A: software integrity assurance considerations for Communication, Navigation, Surveillance and Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) Systems
ED-215: software tool qualification considerations
They are completed by three supplements which contain modifications and additions to ED-12C or ED-109A objectives, activities, explanatory text, and software life cycle data that should be addressed when specific approaches are used as part of the software life cycle:
ED-216: Formal Methods supplement to ED-12C and ED-109A
ED-217: Object-Oriented Technology and related techniques supplement to ED-12C and ED-109A
ED-218: Model-Based development and verification supplement to ED-12C and ED-109A
The last document addresses the questions of both the industry and authorities related to the previous documents. It contains frequently asked questions (FAQs), discussion papers (DPs), and rationale:
ED-94C: Supporting Information for ED-12C and ED-109-A
Following the publication of the WG-71 deliverables, the WG is dormant.
