New working group: WG-85 / Navigation

We are pleased to inform you that EUROCAE WG-85 "Navigation" has been created.
Since the 2003 publication of RTCA DO-236B/EUROCAE ED-75B, Minimum Aviation System Performance Specification: Required Navigation Performance for Area Navigation, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) have utilized these standards to define the system and functional requirements for aircraft and flight crew enabling Performance Based Navigation operations in the U.S. and in Europe. While these operations provide a significant benefit to the European and U.S. airspace, lessons learned from PBN implementations, advances in the PBN concept and application at International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and improved avionics technology date these standards. For example, further definition and standardization are needed to enable application of fixed radius transitions, RNP holding, and standardized lateral offsets. All appropriate items have been covered by publication of ED-75C/DO236C version except wrong runway monitoring in support of aviation safety initiatives. Update Required Navigation Performance for Area Navigation MASPS (to be published as DO-236C Change 1/ED-75D: - to create navigation requirements for future applications (SESAR/NEXT GEN) in coordination with SC-214/WG-78 and other groups. - a standard for wrong runway monitoring in support of aviation safety initiatives.
